Hello,
It’s me
I was wondering if after all these years you’d like to meet
To go over, everything .. yadi yadi yada
…
Hello from the other side?
Okay you all have heard about the ruckus Adele has caused on the internet with ‘Hello’ when she made her comeback to the music scene after an almost 5 year hiatus. Mans cannot see road again fa. I kind of feel that the song has been a bit over hyped but that’s just my personal opinion. I mean it’s a good song and all but people make good songs every day too. I guess because we had been dying to hear something new from Adele, people just went overboard with it.
There’s been the #HelloChallenge of which I found some of the responses absolutely hilarious. I was a victim of the challenge too; I remember thinking to myself, ‘What’s wrong with this one?’ I wasn’t able to try it out on anyone sadly. Sean Tizzle also made some senseless comments about it.
And the best part of it all, the covers. I think I have listened to almost 20 different covers. I’m not even sure I know what the original one sounds like anymore. Some of those covers blew me away yo. There are talented people in this world abeg. I have a number of personal favorites; the ones I listen to all the damn time. See some of my them below. Please if you’re tired of listening to the Hello covers which you must be by now, just listen to these ones below, that’s if you haven’t heard them. You won’t regret it.
This is the number one on my list!! I hate to admit it but I think I prefer hers to Adele’s; it’s so lovely. I went on to watch more of her videos. Girl is good!!! Like her voice just gives me goosebumps. I listen to this at least twice every day. I start my day with it, listen to it when I’m bored, working or just to sing along.
His smooth vocals nearly through me off my seat; goosebumps throughout! I had almost forgotten about Joe but watching this definitely reminded me that he’s still alive and is a bloody better singer than I even imagined.
See! What this guy’s cover did to me eh. Taps Mugadza’s voice is the truth! There are singers and then there are talented vocalists. He is super talented. I looked him up and discovered that he’s from Zimbabwe. Was abandoned by his parents and grew up in foster care. He used to make gospel music while in Zimbabwe and got a scholarship to come attend a music school in L.A. He graduated top of his class winning an award never won by anyone before. This guy is going somewhere, I’m too sure of that.
You know my girl Omawumi gotta be on this list. I love her cover had an up-tempo beat and in typical Omawumi fashion, gave it that African vibe. Her cover is all kinds of amazing. Blows me away every time I listen to it.
There’s also Praiz (Our Nigerian John Legend). Praiz’s cover was amazeballs. See anytime I listen to Praiz I’m reminded of how much talent there is Nigeria; he is such a good vocalist. I just wish he wouldn’t follow the trend and start making this noisy commercial music that lacks substance. But what can I say, your boy must chop too.
To be honest I just wanted to write about all the covers I had been listening to and share a couple of my favorites before the hype dies down fully. I’m getting tired of the song already and I’m pretty sure I’m not alone. I didn’t like Hello at first listen but I have grown to love it! I listened to her second single, ‘When We Were Young’ yesterday and I’m still on the fence about that one. I’m really curious to listen to Adele’s album and see how it compares with 21. 21 was a damn good album and I’d like to see if 25 tops that or would just be mediocre. I sincerely hope it isn’t.
What do you think about the song itself and the sundry covers? Do you think Adele’s 25 would be a good follow up album? Do share your thoughts.
Have a great weekend
P.S. There’s Afropolitan tonight! Y’all turn up!
